The above voter registration chart is pretty jaw-dropping. The info comes from data guru Michael Pruser on X and has stirred up a lot of conversation. The chart shows an erosion of Democratic voters (especially in states like Florida) and a small growth of Republican voters across the United States. At first glance it looks like millions of Democrats soured on post-pandemic policies, many of them chosing to change their registration to Independent or Republican.
The response from Florida Democrats?
“While Florida Republicans have spent years dismantling voting rights to inflate their numbers and take victory laps on the voter registration gap, it hasn’t stopped Florida Democrats from winning elections like the Jacksonville Mayor’s race or flipping State House District 35, both wins that demonstrated a growing lack of enthusiasm for the Republican Party and an increasing number of Independent voters rejecting extremism in Florida."
Here's the scoop on what active/inactive poll status means:
"Active voters are people who have voted in a recent election. Under Florida’s new law, inactive voters are people who did not vote in the 2022 or the 2020 elections. Inactive voters can still vote by showing up to the polls with proper identification or engaging in any other voting-related activity, like requesting a mail-in ballot.
However, inactive voters who do not vote in the next two general elections, in 2024 and 2026, will be removed entirely. They will no longer be eligible to vote and must register again."
So, what do you think about these numbers? And should voters who don't participate in elections be deemed inactive and eventually lose their ability to vote?
