Al Gore continues to elevate the fear factor in the climate change debate with his latest quote. The details and my $10,000 gamble after the cut.

Gore’s latest comments…

“In his speech, Mr Gore told the conference: ‘These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years.’

So, here’s my $10,000 bet:

Al Gore loves to toss around these end-of-days predictions, so let’s get him to put his money where his fear is. If in the next 5 years the entire ice cap is ice-free at any time, I will donate $10,000 to Al Gore’s favorite climate-lovin’ charity. But, if Al Gore is wrong, and he has the nuts (he doesn’t) to take this bet, then he must refrain from writing dire-prediction-filled books and cranking out climate change slide shows for a full 12 months. 1 year, no Al Gore whatsoever. This is the bet.

My money says, on several levels, that he doesn’t. At this point, someone has to call these people onto the carpet. I’m glad to be the first.

Update: Al Gore kinda-sorta walks back claim.

Gore’s office later admitted that the 75 percent figure was one used by Dr. Maslowski as a “ballpark figure” several years ago in a conversation with Gore.
