Well, the inevitable has happened. If you ditch your wife and head to Argentina for the secret ‘love of your life,’ you’re bound to get divorced eventually. Jenny Sanford has officially filed for divorce from her husband, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford.

Jenny Sanford will be just fine. In fact, I’ve never seen a cheated-on spouse in her position handle things so incredibly well. Good for her.

Sanford said in a written statement Friday that the decision to file for divorce came after “many unsuccessful efforts at reconciliation,” but that she’s committed to keeping the process “peaceful for our family.”

“As so many of us know, the dissolution of any marriage is a sad and painful process. It is also a very personal and private one,” she said. “I remain thankful to so many across this state and nation for their words of encouragement and prayers during this difficult time. Please know the boys and I are doing well and are blessed with the incredible support of friends and family and bolstered by our faith and the unfailing love of our God above.”
