The 3D film Avatar, directed by James Cameron, hits theaters December 18th but the first reviews are in today. The film is being called ‘mind blowing’ and not the half-billion dollar train wreck it had been rumored to be. Details after the cut…
The UK Sun got the first look at the highly anticipated film Avatar:

In Avatar, everything feels real – and it’s as if you are immersed in the action.
And what action.
The final battle scene is 20 minutes long and absolutely mind-blowing.
The reviewer also describes the film as ‘overwhelming’ and lauds character development throughout. Sure, it cost more than $300 million to create this beast, but it appears (if were to believe this first review) it may have been money well spent.
Then again, maybe ‘The Sneak’ felt obliged to be complimentary since he got the exclusive?
Update: More positivity…
@petershall: “The AVATAR buzz is an understatement. That movie was unbelievable.”
@chasewhale: “Just finished AVATAR. Special effects were top notch. The movie ran a little long for my likings but I liked it!”
@comingsoonnet” “Okay, about Avatar?…. WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW! Unbelievable… amazing.”
@MikePereira21: Was blown away by Avatar! For 150 minutes, I was a kid again. Thank you James Cameron! BTW, the groundbreaking 3D was mindblowing.”
@rejects: “I’m not supposed to talk about Avatar… That said, it was a spectacular experience. Like nothing I’ve seen before.”
@markwalters74: “Just saw AVATAR. Not allowed to talk about it yet. Not allowed to say how it’s an amazing visual feast, or that Jimmy C’s still got the gift.”
@dmann11: “Holy effing crap!!! Avatar was FREAKING AWESOME KICK ASS SWEET!!!!!”
@TheGate: “For the record ‘Avatar’ was worth the $400 million, and no it is not even remotely “vomit inducing”.

Sure, the best movie I've ever seen!
I think this film is better than 2012 ha ha ha you must watch it guys.
Usually when I see a movie I get up out of my seat at a few times to either use the bathroom and get more food, and it's usually out of boredom. But for this movie, I only got up once, but that's because of all the soda I drank about 2 hours before I seen the movie.

“Avatar” is a story of military veterans who have disabilities marines and wounded by the war, which joined the Avatar program to find new life on an alien planet called Pandora which is inhabited by a race Na'vi, a humanoid race that has its own characteristic for language and culture…

“Make NO Mistake”!!
James Cameron can do no wrong in my eyes. Speaking of eyes, this is the best damn eye candy I have ever seen in a movie. This is the best movie of the year! I've seen a lot of good movies, but none can top the visual and beautiful style of this movie. It also has a great message, for all of the damn war mongers out there. I definitly want to see this movie again at the IMAX! Do yourself a favor, and see this movie in 3-D. It wouldn't be the same in 2-D. And, don't listen to the negative reviews of this movie. Those people writing bad reviews are not worth listening to. They are idiots. WATCH THIS MOVIE! Your eyes will thank you.
Avatar is definitely one of the best movies of 2009. I can't wait to buy the DVD. This movie has a great plot and story. Avatar is basically a movie about morality and human greed. The plot is somewhat similar to the movie Blood Diamond. Again, Avatar is one of the best films of 2009.
After reading a review in an San Diego community newspaper, I reluctantly went to see the 3D version of Avatar instead of the 2D version. Visually the movie is great, the live action integrates with the digital effects very well, not quite seamless but closer than anything I've seen in years (better than the Star Wars, but technology has come a long ways in 30 years). The plot, however, left much to be said. I was really into the movie for until the scene where the Omaticayans show up on “horseback” or what Cameron wants us to take for the Pandoran equivalent of a horse. That really ruined it for me, for the movie it made me realize that the film was overall a re-telling of white military folks against native peoples, along the lines of what happened to Native American tribes by the U.S. military in the late 19th Century (think Custer and the Battle of the Little Bighorn, forced relocation of Indians, etc.)
Another clue for me is how much I want to see a movie again. If I want to see it more than once (like Titanic or Star Wars or Apocalypse Now), then it is a good movie; I don't think I want to see this movie again.
The movie was so great, recommended
I've seen this movie two times. Once in 3D, and once in 2D.
I must say, if you have the oportunity, go to see it in 3D, you will not regret it. Either way though, a fantastic movie, well worth seeing over and over again. Rehashed story? Who gives a damn, it retells it in such a way that it will seem new and exciting to you. Even when you lay awake reflecting on the movie and its message, you'll discover that it was worth every penny, and you'll be begging for more.
Nice review, in my opinion Avatar is one of the few movies to fully back up the media attention and hype it has recieved, and has set the standard for the future of modern cinema.
Whilst the narrative may be nothing new, and it isn't, it is the stunning visual that this movie delivers that makes Avatar so good. It also proves that a simple narrative can be recycled and reused if it is delivered in a fresh and exciting way.
If anyone reading this review has yet to see Avatar, go and catch it in the cinema – and don't miss it in 3D!
