Some great analysis of the current cable media landscape from CJR today. I disagree with a few points (especially the bit about MSNBC offering a rainbow of opinons) but this quote is interesting:
From personal experience covering news around the world, you almost always run into a CNN crew or stringer. You almost never run into a Fox reporter, and never one from MSNBC.
Read the whole thing at CJR’s website.

I can’t decide if the Bloom Box is the greatest invention ever or if I’m a bit like an old lady being conned by a slimy auto mechanic. Regardless, you have to watch this video. [Video]

As I was watching President Obama’s stimulus update presser today, several readers emailed to ask ‘What’s that spot on Joe Biden’s forehead?’ Joe Biden is the first Catholic Vice President the U.S. has seen so each Ash Wednesday these questions float in like crazy. It’s Ash Wednesday, folks.

Back at it for day three… and the bad news is none of the additional equipment has arrived. Still, we keep moving forward, as Disney said, with another show.

So much tweaking to do in this studio… but no rest for the weary, here’s episode two of The Daily Fix for your enjoyment. Or so I hope.

It took me quite some time to find this last night. The Boston Globe and several other outlets covering the Henry Gates arrest have deleted the online versions of the police report below for unknown reasons. Click ‘zoom’ to enlarge the text and read what really happened leading up to the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Gates. Keep an eye on my Twitter feed to follow this story today.

This post will be updated throughout the night on TheNewsJunkie.com.

Though I’m guessing Fox will win the night with their decision not to pick up President Obama’s prime time presser on health care tonight, it doesn’t make it any less important for the administration. The audience will still be quite large across all networks and people will be watching. This is a make or break moment for the President and his…

There’s nothing that pisses me off more than partisans who oppose something simply because their political opponents support it. They respond to their perceived nemesis not with a fresh view on the subject that may sway the debate but with a slew of insults and heated rhetoric that completely miss the point of the argument and ignore the facts at hand. We’re seeing quite a bit of that with the debate surrounding the…

Uncertainty reigns in Honduras.

Rumor has it Hillary Clinton will be meeting with ousted President Zelaya this week. The Obama administration is ready to go ‘all in’ here. They’ve made it quite clear which fighter they’re betting the house on and the chips are about to be collected. Venezuela and Nicaragua are ramping up the rhetoric and Honduran officials claim the latter is amassing troops on the border. I haven’t heard President…

The official press release is here… but you want find what you’re looking for if you read it. I couldn’t get a sense of what her goals may be from her hastily arranged press conference either. She wandered out into her backyard and delivered a short statement, taking no questions afterward, in the media blackhole that is the 4th of July weekend. Also, she leaked some information earlier in the day that…

I’ve kept my distance, at least on this website, from most of the Michael Jackson coverage in the last several days. I haven’t even mentioned most of the smaller twists and turns on the only outlet I’ve used for MJ-related stories — my Twitter account. But this… this is impressive. I’ve heard time and again about how Michael Jackson was toast. I’ve heard that the King of Pop was sickly and didn’t…
