Let’s take a moment to remember something. This entire fiasco, which should have been put to bed yesterday, began after Carrie Prejean dared to answer a controversial question with the majority opinion not only in the U.S. but also in her home state of California. Since then, she has been attacked for several things. The latest attack is a dirt-digging operation centering on her parent’s divorce when she was a child. Like, I don’t know, every divorce of the past twenty years, it was a bit messy.

Now, Perez Hilton, under the guise of pretending to care, throws some more mud. Again, this is a girl who has done nothing more than dare to disagree (politely, even) with folks who claim to be among the most open-minded on the planet. It’s an absolute travesty, the way Carrie Prejean has been treated and the only thing that is more upsetting than the public lynching of a Miss U.S.A contestant for holding a majority opinion is the media’s slanted coverage of the entire fiasco.
Also, Shanna Moakler (a woman famous for nothing more than dating the drummer of Blink-182 and rushing to his side after he survived a plane crash — for the publicity, she left soon after the cameras disappeared) is stepping down from the Miss California pageant director. Now she’ll have more time to spend acting in projects that no one will ever watch.
This is not how you win people over to your cause.
The crazy thing is, I support their ultimate goal. I think same-sex couples should be able to ‘marry’ just like anyone else. In fact, I think it’s wrong for the government to be in the ‘marriage business’ at all. But Perez Hilton and Shana Moakler are alienating people with this push to discredit someone who dares to disagree with them. And the media is culpable in the attack.
