Pastor Steven Anderson of Phoenix, Arizona has posted a video of an altercation between himself and border police online. He originally made some waves when a post-arrest video of him (with blood covering his face) made it’s way to YouTube.com. Anderson claims he was invoking his fourth amendment freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures. Take a look at the video below and you’ll see that, even though Anderson was being a bit combative, the officers response was more than a little over-the-top.
The thought that a police officer believes an American citizen has to, by law, abide by his every instruction or he can be arrested — no matter the legality of the situation — is a bit frightening. If an officer asks me to do something that I don’t want to do and I’m not constitutionally obliged to do so, I’m not going to blindly follow his every wish either.
Update: At least he didn’t get a kick to the face.
