The possibility of a Supreme Court appointment in President Obama’s first year is becoming more and more apparent. Ginsburg’s health is declining and the opportunity to fill an open seat may come sooner rather than later. I’m sure the President would prefer to replace someone other than Ginsburg (they see eye-to-eye on most issues) and the arduous appointment process may slow down implementation of other programs Obama favors. Still, it all looks pretty likely to happen eventually.
WASHINGTON (CNN) – Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will undergo chemotherapy to combat pancreatic cancer, the Supreme Court announced Tuesday.
“I am scheduled to undergo a precautionary post-surgical course of chemotherapy at the National Institutes of Health,” Ginsburg said in a statement released by the Court.
The treatments will commence in late March, “and are not expected to affect my schedule at the Court,” she said.
Ginsburg underwent surgery last month for the condition, but was back on the bench within days.
