Democrats Can’t Get TWO Votes?

Harry Reid claims the bill will start moving tonight between 5 and 7 o’clock but it’s unclear what Senate Democrats are pushing for here. If you watched President Obama’s speech to the Democrat retreat last night, you noticed a shocking change in demeanor. Bipartisanship is fading away as a goal for this bill. Still, Senate Dems don’t want to own a bill that the voting public sees as faulty and full of pork.

From the start, it’s been quite clear that Democratic leaders (Pelosi in the House and Reid in the Senate) have no real interest in reaching across the aisle in the wake of what they see as a massive mandate from the American public.

But what exactly do Democrats need to pass this bill?

There are 56 Democrats in the Senate. Add the two ‘Independents’ who almost always vote with the Democrats to that list and you’re at 58. It’s clear the Republicans can’t filibuster this into a non-issue and Reid has even bragged (on more than one occasion) about having the two Republican votes he needs to push this through. So if Senate Democrats are so pleased with this Stimulus bill and think urgent action is needed to save our economy from this next ‘Depression’ they keep mentioning — why don’t they force a vote and push this bill through on their own? The House Democrats were fine with owning this bill, why aren’t Senate Dems in the same boat? And who are Reid’s two Republican votes? Snowe and Collins…
