WASHINGTON (AP) – Senate Democrats plan to accept Roland Burris for President-elect Barack Obama’s vacant seat.
Awesome.
Sidebar: If you haven’t seen the ridiculously comical memorial/burial site Roland Burris has purchased in memorial of himself, click here for a good laugh. The man has built his own monument, is clearly in love with the spotlight, can’t answer questions from the press (see: Caroline Kennedy) and is an all around sideshow appointed by the most corrupt Governor in the history of the state of Illinois – and the Democrats are going to seat him.
Then again, I don’t think they had much of a choice.
Update: It looks like Democrats may have an agreement with Burris. If he doesn’t run in 2010, they will seat him as a placeholder for the Senate seat. Problem is, Burris doesn’t have to follow through with that agreement and ABC News notes a similar situation in the past where things went south. So Roland Burris, a man who has never won (though he’s tried many times, for many positions) a single statewide election, is about to take over Barack Obama’s Senate seat after receiving a single vote – from a Governor on the verge of indictment.
Update: Not so fast? Reid slows down the process just a tad…
Meanwhile, a new poll shows 84% believe Roland Burris should not be seated.
