Roland Burris traveled to Washington today to claim Illinois’ disputed U.S. Senate seat, even as officials at the Senate rejected the paperwork sent by Gov. Rod Blagojevich to formally pave his way.
Secretary of the Senate Nancy Erickson rejected Burris’ certificate of appointment to the Senate as invalid, said Beth Provenzano, a spokeswoman for Erickson. Senate rules require that the certificate be signed both by the governor and the secretary of state.
Believe it or not, I think Democrats are going to have to seat Burris. Reid seems to be buckling and it appears, as ridiculous as it sounds, the law is on Burris’ side.
For Republicans, the Senate has turned into a goldmine. You’ve got Burris on one hand, one of the most ridiculous persons ever to be appointed to an office. On the other, a possible Senator Caroline Kennedy. Then, juggle in a third with Senator Al Franken and the sideshow is complete.
sorry, but you have a long way to go to out ridiculous the likes of former senators Santorum, Stevens and current Senator Orrin HATCH
No kidding. The Senate Dems are going to be a joke with these additions.
Actually Harry Reid, who is now callint Petraeus a genius, “out ridiculous” him a long time ago.
I enjoy this quote from Allahpundit
“If Petraeus is such a genius, why did Reid vow not to believe him if he reported progress at his 2007 Senate hearing? Why did he allegedly call Petraeus incompetent a few months later? Why was he one of only 25 Senators to vote against the resolution condemning MoveOn for the “Betray Us” ad? Why was he still declaring the surge a failure as late as December 2007, and even to this day insists that Iraq is in a state of civil war?”
