St Louis Leader: ‘Arm Yourselves’
ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis city leader frustrated with the police response to rising crime called Tuesday on residents to arm themselves to protect their lives and property.
Alderman Charles Quincy Troupe said police are ineffective, outnumbered or don’t care about the increase in crime in his north St. Louis ward. St. Louis has had 157 homicides in 2008, 33 more than last year at this time.
“The community has to be ready to defend itself, because it’s clear the economy is going to get worse, and criminals are getting more bold,” Troupe, 72, said Tuesday.
Troupe said that when he and residents approached a district police commander last year, they were told “there was nothing he could do to protect us and the community … that he didn’t have the manpower.”
What do you think, was this Alderman out of line? Or he is exactly right?

Out of line.
Though protecting yourself and your property is a good thing, the idea that a city leader would tell his citizens that they have to protect themselves because the cops can’t do it…seems like a recipe for disaster.
Then again, maybe he is right to worry. I’ve seen some of the crazy parts of St. Louis and it isn’t pretty.
Makes Oakland CA look tame.
As long as the citizens are complying with local and state firearm and concealed carry laws, it’s not a big deal, as far as I’m concerned.
The fact that an Alderman suggested it is just his way of telling the cops to start doing their freaking jobs and crack down on crime.

If we just blew up everyone in St. Louis, there wouldn’t be any more crime. I’m surprised Alderman didn’t suggest that as well. brilliant minds
He’s exactly right..finally an elected officials sees the truth.
I suppose it’s okay that the police chief said he couldn’t help them due to lack of manpower. Oh, well, that’s okay, we’ll just tell the criminals and they’ll cut back so that the police won’t have to overwork themselves.
The only thing gun laws do is to harm the law abiding citizen that needs to protect themselves, it’s not like the criminals are going to be obeying the law.
Keeeeripes…..Now we have our government telling its people to arm themselves….They know darn well no good can come of this. There WILL be “questionable” shooting events it St Louis now, giving the Federal government more influence in the dis-arming of America. Wake up people…..the government wants to dis=arm YOU so that they can produce the “police state” they have been working towards for decades now. The Alderman is just one of their “puppets”, and the dumb lower class in St Louis is falling for it!!! Wake up America….we are headed for 1930′s Germany.
