Dem’s Insane Halloween Display

CATHARINE — Ron Havens has a reputation for provocative Halloween displays that reflect his strong political views.

But even Havens was pretty sure his latest effort was over the top. That didn’t stop him from setting it up in plain sight anyway.

Havens, who lives on Schuyler County Route 15 (Ridge Road) just south of Odessa, this week set up a Halloween display featuring mannequins that look like Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and Republican rival John McCain.

But the Obama figure looks like he is running, and the McCain likeness is dressed in the hooded robe of the Ku Klux Klan and is carrying a baseball bat.

Havens is quick to point out he is a liberal and a big supporter of Obama, and that the scene is meant to provoke thought about the way he believes Obama has been unfairly treated by the McCain campaign.

Are you kidding me? Some idiot brings a stuffed animal to a Palin rally and the media hyperventilates about race issues and when it happens on the other side of the debate? Crickets.

Do you really not see the difference between this and the McCain/Palin rally incidents?

Let me help you Mr. Wasson,
This act of stupidity you post about and show so much outrage over is carried out by an individual who decided to pull this stunt on his own, Obama did not instigate his behavior, if anything McCain’s actions did.
The Republican candidate and his running mate however have been guilty of instigating their supporters to say and do these types of outlandish and offensive things during their political rallies.

Reality has a well-known liberal bias.

Sigh. Once again, another loaded headline on the WJNO website that looks like it might be news, but it turns out to be Shawn’s personal opinion about something.

“Dem’s Insane Halloween Display” could equally be titled:

“Schuyler County resident’s Insane Halloween Display”

    “American citizen’s Insane Halloween Display”

or maybe “Good-taste challenged man’s Insane Halloween Display”

You however choose to apply a label which is divisive and partisan. It’s not like only a Republican or conservative would find this display offensive. It most certainly does not illustrate the Democratic party’s viewpoints or liberal viewpoints, so why do you try to attribute it to them with this article?

The Halloween display is ridiculous. It’s not funny or clever or relevant to anything. Why would you want it to be in the news?

As far as the comparison to the person in the crowd with a stuffed animal at the Palin rally… that is also un-newsworthy. I don’t know what media you are talking about when you say they were hyperventilating. Of course you provide no links for us to reference.

Where do you find this crap?

  4. Peeved Guy says:

    How so, Bison?
Was it when they said that Obama “Had a funny name”? or when they said he wasn’t electable because “he didn’t look like the other guy on the dollar bills”?

Oh, yeah, Obama said those things. Obamas camp have been the only ones to bring up race.

  5. shfelby says:

Bison doesn’t need to explain himself, liberals rarely do. They just make a comment like
“The Republican candidate and his running mate however have been guilty of instigating their supporters to say and do these types of outlandish and offensive things during their political rallies.”
without pointing to a single instance and then hope it sticks. At the same time they will completely ingore it when Obama says
“I want you to argue with them and get in their face,”
    and hope that goes away.

The man is a rabid Obama supporter. If he was a Republican and I failed to mention his party affiliation you would be frothing at the mouth.

  7. Wayne says:

My feelings would be the same regardless of political affiliation, Shawn. You assume a lot of odd things about other people.
