Ashley Todd Released From Jail
PITTSBURGH – A McCain campaign volunteer accused of making up a story about being robbed and assaulted in Pittsburgh by a man who disliked her McCain bumper sticker will enter a program for first-time offenders.
Under the deal announced in court Thursday, 20-year-old Ashley Todd will be released from jail and required to undergo mental health treatment. Her record eventually will be expunged as long as she goes to treatment, stays out of trouble and keeps authorities apprised of her whereabouts.
Todd, of College Station, Texas, has been jailed since Oct. 24, when police say she admitted making up a story about being robbed near a Pittsburgh bank and then assaulted by a man who scraped a backward letter “B” into her cheek.
Why would she get the benefit of having her record expunged? Sure, she clearly has mental health issues, but the charges she leveled were massive. Should she should get off scot-free?

That sounds like a deferred sentence (at least that’s the vernacular we use in Colorado). So long as you do not have a criminal history, the prosecutor can offer something like this. Keep your nose clean for x amount of time and you don’t have to serve time (or whatever).
In CO, they don’t “expunge” the record (delete it as if it never happened), they just mark it as settled or whatever, so it will still pop up on criminal history checks. I can’t speak for the process in PA, though.

FYI: Try being married to a white woman as a hispanic in Iowa. You will see just how racist this country is through the pain in your wife’s eyes from their treatment the man she loves. I’m used to it. She will never be.

She was a dumb kid doing something stupid. She got her face plastered all over the nation and ridiculed by more people than most of us will ever be mocked by. Her story was not only completely outed as a fraud, but she also outed all the morons at Fox, Drudge, ect.
We should thank this moron for stealing some attention away from McCain’s more moronic messaging, taking a few thousand of McCain’s money, and making his campaign look just that much stupider. Don’t wish some additional level of life destruction upon her just because she fucked up to no real consequence.

If she did something this stupid, she deserves every bit of flak she catches. Hopefully she has learnt her lesson, and she has a nice reminder on her face in case she forgets.
