A New (See: Old) Palin Scandal

Andrew Sullivan runs it as a ‘new scandal’ but it’s old hype repackaged…

Let’s take note of how this is bouncing around the press right now. CBS News runs the headline ‘Palin Target Of New Ethics Complaint‘ and it’s a story, told so many times before, about Sarah Palin charging Alaskans for the travel of her children. The allegation doesn’t seem all that egregious to me but let’s continue. The phrase ‘ethics complaint’ sounds real bad until you read the complaint itself and find out where it’s coming from. Read the complaint for yourself below…

CBS News has obtained a copy of the complaint that Frank Gwartney, a retired lineman in Anchorage filed last Friday, with Alaska’s Attorney General, Talis Colber in Juneau. “Palin ran on the platform of ethics, transparency and anti-corruption. I’m tired of the hypocrisy that exists in Government and people need to know the truth,” said Gwartney.

So this Gwartney guy just sounds like some regular Alaskan fed up with corruption in Government, right? I mean, CBS News, Andrew Sullivan and other outlets aren’t telling us anything else about him other than the fact that he’s a retired ‘lineman’ — whatever the hell that means. (I’m guessing he’s an electrical lineman of sorts so hold your emails on that one) So is Frank Gwartney a partisan? Well, the only politician worthy of his cash thus far is Howard Dean so that should tell you something. Gwartney donated $200 to Dean in 2004. Nice.

They look like good friends, huh? This was snapped at a fun little pizza party back in 2003. So who is this Senator Hollis guy, you ask? Well, he’s the Senator behind the rushed ‘Troopergate’ investigation who promised an October Surprise which he delivered earlier this month. Oh yeah, and Hollis French just so happens to be a huge Obama fan. Can you think of any solid reason why Sullivan and CBS would neglect to inform you of these details?

What is an ‘ethics complaint’ anyhow?

This bombshell complaint, sent to Alaska’s Attorney General Talis Coldberg, sites tons of sources that Gwartney totally found on Google News. Really, that’s it. Frank Gwartney, a man with an affinity for Democrats like Howard Dean, with friends like Hollis French, wrote a letter to the AG and told him he, as a concerned citizen would like to see this matter investigated.

Nothing political about this shenanigan, right? Right…

Update: After several unanswered calls to Frank Gwartney’s home phone and his cellphone — which is 1-(907)-227-3589 — I felt inclined to leave a voice message. Hopefully, he will respond.
