In her first of three interviews with ABC News’ Charles Gibson and the only interview since being picked by Sen. John McCain as his Republican vice presidential nominee, Palin categorized the Russian invasion of Georgia as “unacceptable” and warned of the threats from Islamic terrorists and a nuclear Iran.
I’ve made a point of being honest, whether for good or bad, on this site. That said, I have to tell you, that was bad. To be fair, I can count more than two dozen rough cuts and it’s certainly possible that ABC News just edited Sarah Palin into oblivion but the end product was embarassing. She seemed incredibly nervous and the fact that she could make a major gaff (which, for the most part, she didn’t) at any minute seemed to be weighing heavily on her. Sources within the McCain campaign have made it clear that Sarah Palin’s major focus in the cabinet will be energy independence — something she knows quite a bit about. This is good news as it’s quite obvious she doesn’t know all that much about politics on a global scale.
Her answers were very unfocused and, though you could attribute much of that to sloppy edits, it’s hard to defend her generic answer on Pakistan. Strangely enough, it seemed like Charlie Gibson was being quite fair with her. Sure, he didn’t press Obama nearly as hard and he let him run off at the mouth with long, obtruse answers but he wasn’t that bad. The good news is she’s sharp as a tack on domestic issues and this was the only portion of the million-part interview that will focus on international issues. Still, I thought it was sub-par. Your thoughts?
Update: I just rewatched the whole thing and I may have been a bit too harsh in my critique. It’s so hard to get a feel for it because of the edits but it certainly could have been better.
I think she did great. She’s under alot of pressure from the media to be perfect. She was excellent.
If you were to interview Obama….who has 2 years in the Senate with mostly ‘PRESENT” votes, you would get him stumbling over his words, and saying mostly ‘Ahhhh’,,,,’uuummm’ ,,,ahhhh. The man is truly an empty headed useful idiot.
You must have been watching a differnet interview.
The only point she missed on was the Bush Doctrine.
As for her answer about Isreal it was the same answer
Obama gave on Meet the Press several months ago.
Nervous, Hah – she was aggressive and thats probably what you do not like about her.
At least she does not feel that someone else would have been
a better choice.
I say, let her and John go straight ahead and continue
the distruction of the country (and its people)
Let them go to war with all the world, after all it is
predicted that America WILL fall!!!! it is beginning already as we speak. People who are unable to see are able to feel.
(if you know what I mean) Maybe this is exactly what the
American people deserve!! They allow themselves to be led blindfolded into situations that will cause self-distruction
(the Jim Jones saga)while the rest of the world move forward.
It is a burning shame. The GREAT AMERICA is now down on its knees, borrowing from other countries. They have lost their pride. No wonder there is no respect for any American who travel abroad. If these are the chosen representatives of the people, then the rest of us are like them. WE ARE ALL
STUPID. Thst’s the image we have abroad. Maybe we also believe that America IS THE WORLD! Wake up people!!!
Wow. You should cut back on the medication.
Mag: I agree with you, it doesn’t matter who gets elected, neither party will make the tough decisions to save the U.S. Either party will destroy the country. We are fiscally and morally bankrupt, we are bailing out private companies, costing the taxpayers trillions of dollars. When you add the new debt of fattie and ferdie, our federal debt is at least $15 trillion which will cost every American (man, women, child, illegal)$45,000. And neither party is talking about this. Why isn’t there hearings about the criminal activity of these CEO’s? Why isn’t there anyone going to jail? Why did the govt bail out Bear Stearns, fattie and ferdie? Why are they considering to give money to the big three automakers? WE ARE BROKE, WE NEED TO STOP SPENDING MONEY WE DO NOT HAVE!!!!!!!
I think, since our government (elected criminals) believes some companies are too big to fail, maybe they believe they are too big to fail.
Ask not what the country can do for you, but what can you do for the country?
Please keep interviewing her. She is never going to let Osama back up for air.
Well at least she didn’t forget to wear her flag lapel pin.
American Lover
I think you hit the nail squarely on the head.
Simplistically, no on will be held accountable for
the “CRIMINAL REIGN”, they are all the same, above the
“so called law” and there is no one there to hold them accountable. Another step up on the “downfall ladder”.
Seriously? You really think that Gov Palin gave a good interview? All I heard were “canned” answers. Frankly some of them didn’t even make sense. And as far as her cred on energy. Her administration approved $500 million in State funds to a Canadian company. This company is working on licensing a natural gas pipeline. If they can built it, it won’t be complete for another 10 years (most are doubtful). She pissed off the big oil companies (who control the supply of North Slope NG) and now those same companies are working on their own pipeline. Currently, Alaska exports Natural Gas overseas. She taxed the oil companies to the hilt and you pay the price at the pump. Otherwise she has done nothing for the State in the way of alternative energy. Nothing. Her short stint on the gas/oil board was a “payoff” from former Gov Murkowski (of jet plane fame) for her helping with his 2002 election. She quit the job after less than a year because the drive from Wasilla-Anchorge was interfering with family matters. Do all the Google searching you want. You won’t much on her “energy” background. McCain sez she is the nation’s energy expert. If so, where has she been all this time? How come I never heard her called to Washington to testify on behalf of any energy plan? Or give expert advice to the Government or private industry? Don’t be fooled…
She did fine and she will get better. All of ‘em, sorry, most of ‘em do. I agree, she seemed not the smooth, confident character she has been in the past, but she is a gamer and she will pick it up. Palin has something that libs just don’t get, a conservative philosophy and that alone makes her twice as qualified than Obama and Biden put together.
