The News Junkie Radio Show Audio Archive For August 31, 2008:
Tonight on the show, we talk about Hurricane Gustav, a category three storm headed for the Gulf Coast. Also, we discuss McCain’s VP pick Sarah Palin and the attacks she’s already dealing with on both her experience and credibility. We take a look at the Casey Anthony case, which seems to have hit fever pitch with Casey’s arrest on Friday night, and discuss all the recent developments. Finally, we

NEW ORLEANS – Lines of people waiting for buses to take them out of the city grew longer Saturday and traffic grew heavier on main highways as Hurricane Gustav strengthened into a dangerous Category 4 storm on track for the Gulf Coast.
A line well over a mile long stretched in six loops through the parking lot at Union Passenger Terminal. Under a blazing sun, many led children or pushed strollers with one hand and pulled luggage with

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the Anthony home shortly before 8:30 p.m. More than half dozen vehicles – some marked and some unmarked – pulled up to the house. The lead detective – Yuri Melich – got out and went inside the home.
Moments later, the door cracked open, showing Casey Anthony inside standing near Sgt. John Allen, who is supervising the investigation. The crowd who was gathered outside cheered. Someone yelled, “she’s in handcuffs.”
At 8:33 p.m.,

Juan Bonilla, who has managed the parking lot outside Ponce Furniture for more than three decades, set a record Thursday.
Bonilla, wearing a reflective vest with a Barack Obama pin, persuaded several ticket-holders to pay $80 to park in a prime spot near Invesco Field at Mile High.
By 2 p.m., several hours before Obama would deliver his historic speech, Bonilla had collected that exorbitant fee from five people heading to the stadium. A spot for a big Denver

Obama spokesman Bill Burton:
Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain’s commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush’s failed economic policies — that’s not the change we need, it’s just more of the same.

Fantastic pick. McCain uses his brain and trumps Obama’s ‘historic’ speech with a ‘historic’ announcement of his own. No matter who wins, history will be made this November.
Update: Looks like I wasn’t the only one looking for Romney.

DENVER – Barack Obama’s speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday night was what many nervous Democrats were hoping for: a forceful challenge to John McCain and the Republicans, and a restatement of the message to change Washington and the nation that propelled him to the nomination.
Speaking to a nation fighting two wars, struggling with a weakened economy and growing doubtful about the future, Obama said he would make the fall campaign a choice between a continuation of

According to sources close to the investigation, DNA tests that were conducted on a stain and hair samples found in the trunk of the car Casey Anthony was driving indicate that her daughter, 3-year-old Caylee Anthony, is dead.
This latest news comes as little shock after yesterday’s revelation that test results of air samples that were taken from the car allegedly show that a decomposing human body had been inside the trunk.

So here’s the buzz… Some outlets are reporting that Romney is ‘off the list‘ which leads me to believe the McCain campaign thinks the pick is too obvious and won’t spur much of a reaction unless they spin it so it looks less obvious. Lieberman is so far out of the running that Rove has asked him to

“Our country is less secure and more isolated than it has been at any time in recent history,” said Joe Biden, the U.S. senator from Delaware who a week ago became Barack Obama’s running mate and was presented as the vice presidential nominee Wednesday night.
I think Barack Obama has fallen into a bit of a trap here. The convention so far has been about the Clinton camp and nothing more. Night one featured an impressive speech by Ted…

Air sample tests from Casey Anthony’s car show a decomposing human body was inside the trunk, a sheriff’s office official just confirmed.
Officials have offered Anthony a partial immunity deal if she admits 3-year-old Caylee Marie died as a result of an accident. If she takes the deal, any information Anthony provides to law-enforcement could not be used against her in prosecution.
