McCain And Obama Battle Over ‘Race Card’

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Barack Obama and John McCain traded old-school political jabs Thursday, with McCain contending that he had been wrongly accused of planning a racial attack and Obama countering that his opponent was inventing a controversy to avoid talking about the issues.

After months of contending that their campaigns would eschew personal attacks as part of a new kind of politics, the presumptive presidential nominees of the major parties turned nasty over what Obama meant when he

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert held a special press conference on Wednesday at 8 p.m. where he announced he will not run in the Kadima primary scheduled to take place in September.

Video: Obama’s Prayer Snatched From Wall

Nearly a week after Barack Obama made a brief campaign stop in Jerusalem, Israelis are still shaking their heads over the aggressive reporting of their local news media. Last week the Israeli daily Ma’ariv published a photo of the prayer note Obama tucked between the stones of the Western Wall–a common tradition among Israelis and foreign tourists. “Lord — Protect my family and me,” said the note, which was written on the stationery of the King David Hotel, where

Republican Senator Indicted On 7 Counts

WASHINGTON (AP) – Sen. Ted Stevens, the longest-serving Republican senator and a figure in Alaska politics since before statehood, has been indicted on seven counts of falsely reporting hundreds of thousands of dollars in services he received from a company that helped renovate his home.

Stevens, 84, has been dogged by a federal investigation into whether he pushed for fishing legislation that also benefited his son, an Alaska lobbyist.

From May 1999 to August 2007, prosecutors said Stevens concealed

Tim Kaine Is Obama VP Frontrunner

Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine appears to be emerging as the frontrunner in the race to be named Barack Obama’s Democratic vice presidential running mate.

The presumptive nominee has told close associates he has had “very serious” conversations with Obama and has provided documents to the campaign, several sources close to Kaine told The Washington Post.

Sens. Joe Biden and Evan Bayh are also said to be on the short short list, according to the Post.

Latest McCain VP Buzz: Pawlenty?

A source tells me that Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty is John McCain’s choice, and that the announcement is coming very soon. But I checked with the American Legislative Exchange Council, who Pawlenty is scheduled to address Wednesday at 11:30. As far as they know, his speech is still on.

So I urge skepticism. Maybe Pawlenty is the choice, and it’s coming later. Or perhaps this was just an overreaction to the news that Pawlenty is going to Iowa Saturday

U.S. Moves To ‘Heightened Alert’ Stage

Government officials have been quietly stepping up counterterror efforts out of a growing concern that al Qaeda or similar organizations might try to capitalize on the spate of extremely high-profile events in the coming months, sources tell ABC News.
Homeland security is on alert with Olympics near, elections on horizon.

Security experts point to next month’s Olympics as evidence that high-profile events attract threats of terrorism, like the one issued this past weekend by a Chinese Muslim minority
